A Tribute to Keith Alexander...........
Keith Alexander was born in Nottingham on 14th November, 1956.
Keith played for the academy system of Notts. County, however he never made it into the first team and went on to play his football for amateur Cambridgeshire team, Wisbech Town and after many many years of travelling around the non-league circuit he finally managed to get his big Football League break with Grimsby Town whom he would play for from 1988-1990 making 83 league appearances and scoring 23 goals, he then moved went on to play for us, for a spell in 1990 but failed to hit the target and quickly cut his losses and moved onto Lincoln City where he played from 1990-1994 despite only making 45 appearances and scoring 4 goals he was a terrace favourite at Sincil Bank and little did they know what more was to come.
Two very short spells at Mansfield Town were interupted by a spell in Northern Ireland playing for Belfast side, Cliftonville, he also recieved 3 international caps for Saint Lucia.
As a manager Keith started with Lincoln City's Youth Academy and then was appointed Manager for the 1993-94 season, at the end of which he didn't have his contract renewed so he moved onto Ilkeston Town where helped them to their highest ever finish of 3rd in what is now The Blue Square South, following this he had a succesful season with Northwich Vics. managing to keep then in the Conference Premier despite being 5 points adrift when he took over, then Keith took over the reigns at Lincoln City, in his first preseason the club had just finished 22nd in Division 3 and had entered administration so getting them into the play-offs 5 consecutive years with next to no money, got Keith his nickname, Alexander the Great amongst the Lincoln faithful.
Spells as Director of Football at Bury and manager of Peterborough United followed before taking over at our Cheshire Neighbours Macclesfield Town basically working miracles turning them from a side with no prospects of any sort of placing and with relegation looking an ever increasing possibility he managed to turn them around now they are a decent solid team and seem to be improving with each passing season, I'm sure Macclesfield will continue to push on in the memory of him and I'm sure they will make him proud.
Keith did so many great things during his career, opened the door for Black Managers in England as well as giving non-league players the hope of one day breaking into the football league even if they are later starters he was without question one of the most popular managers ever to grace English football.
